Bicycle Institute of South Australia: Rally for the Humphrey family – messages on cyclists’ water bottles
At the rally, organisers asked you to bring one bike water bottle, write on it what you think, leave it on the steps of Parliament house. By the rally’s end, there were 300 water-bottles. Most bottles were opaque plastic, yellow white or blue, with scuff marks, and black bike grease stains. I had the impression, each had each kept a rider company for many kms. Others were PTFE soft drinks or spring-water bottles, that riders keep, because they come with sip-tops. Some were plain; others had logos, promotional messages, or just decoration. Most people had printed their messages in black texta, and after the rally I spent some time reading these. Some people were angry, others sad or moved. Some talked about the motorist Eugene McGee. Many asked, or more precisely pleaded, for more consideration for cyclists, on our roads. (This is essential reading – see the entire article!)
