Failure to provide documents forces delay for hit-run inquiry. 18/05/2005. ABC News Online
The Royal Commission into the Eugene McGee hit-run case has been adjourned until tomorrow, after police failed to provide key witnesses with documents relating to the investigation of the fatal crash in late 2003. For almost two years, Tony and John Zisimou have wanted to tell the story of what they saw on the afternoon Eugene McGee hit and killed cyclist Ian Humphrey. The brothers were to have given evidence today to the Royal Commission into the hit-run investigation.
However the hearing was delayed when it was revealed police had failed to provide the Zisimou’s lawyer Brian Deegan with documents relating to interviews after the fatal crash and a police internal affairs investigation. A visibly frustrated Commissioner Greg James QC, was forced to abandon today’s hearing to allow Mr Deegan time to digest the hundreds of pages of documents. The commission re-convenes tomorrow and Tony and John Zisimou will now appear on Friday.
