Border Mail: Ride to honour Gillett
Australia’s cycling elite and other sports stars will take part in a Brisbane to Gold Coast charity ride on Saturday in honour of Amy Gillett. Gillett died tragically last year when she was hit by an out-of-control car while training with her Australian team-mates near the town Zeulenroda in Germany in July. International cyclists will support this year’s Portfolio Partners South Bank to Surfers Paradise Amy’s Ride.
The 100km ride raises funds and awareness of the Amy Gillett-Safe Cycling Foundation, established by her husband Simon Gillett.
Lorian Graham, a team-mate of Gillett’s who was also badly injured in the German accident, has just returned to competitive cycling and will take part in the event as a leading rider from South Bank.
Also taking part are Gillett’s parents Mary and Dennis Safe.
