ABC4.com: Two Orem police officers raising funds for memorial bike ride

Two Orem police officers are getting ready for a memorial ride to New York City. The cops are the only two in Utah participating in the May 9th ride. They are planning to bike from Ground Zero to Washington, D.C. The four day-300 mile ride ends at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Detective Sgt. Randy Crowther is riding in honor of Lehi Officer Joseph Adams. He was killed in August of 2001. A suspected drunk driver shot him. He served that department for 27 years and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Sgt. Gordon Smith is riding in honor of Roosevelt Police Chief Cecil Gurr. He died in July of 2001. He was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance. Gordon says, “I just want chief Gurr’s family to know we still think of him.” Crowther and Smith are trying to raise $3000 for the trip. They only have to come up with about $900. If you would like to donate to their cause, call them at 801 229-7252. The two men have until April 1st to raise that money.
