IOL: Car mows down cyclists: one dead

A car ploughed into three cyclists, killing one of them, on the Deneysville road, near Green Point Prison in the Vaal Triangle on Sunday morning, paramedics said. The dead cyclist was thought to be from Dunkeld, Johannesburg, said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak. The car was found on its roof 200m from the scene. Its driver was thought to have lost control of the vehicle after crashing into the cyclists. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition was stable, said Vermaak.

The other cyclists were not hurt. Vaal Triangle police were investigating. In January, 3000 cyclists protested in Mulbarton, south of Johannesburg, against the dangers they faced on the roads.
