The Age: Cyclist dies in highway collision

A cyclist has died after a collision with a car in Melbourne’s south-east. The cyclist, in his 20s or early 30s, died at the scene of the collision on the corner of the South Gippsland Highway and Pound Road, Dandenong South, about 5.40am today, a Metropolitan Ambulance Service (MAS) spokeswoman said. The car’s driver was taken to Dandenong District Hospital for treatment for shock. Victoria Police spokesman Senior Constable Leigh Wadeson said it was unknown who was at fault at this stage. “Investigations are obviously under way,” he said. The South Gippsland Highway has been closed to traffic in both directions between Pound and Abbotts roads.
