The Age: Medibank Private recalls promo bicycles
A nationwide recall has been issued for more than 5,000 adult and 1,000 child bicycles given out as part of a health insurance promotion. People should stop using bicycles distributed as part of a recent promotion by the health insurer Medibank Private, South Australian Consumer Affairs Minister Jennifer Rankine said on Thursday.
Ms Rankine said the bicycles, particularly the children’s model, posed a safety risk because of an oversized pedal and a crank mechanism that was too close to the ground.
The flaw could result in the bicycle flipping if the pedal clipped the ground, she said.
Both adult and child models also do not meet mandatory labelling requirements under the Australian Standard.
Medibank Private said more than 6,000 bicycles had been distributed as part of the promotion but there had been no reports of injury.
People affected by the recall can contact the bicycle’s importer, WaiveStar, on 1300 885 904.
