Galway News: Cyclists furious over road design
The group representing city cyclists are in fresh conflict with the City Council over complaints made about the engineers involved in the design of proposed new roads. Earlier this year, Shane Foran, Chairman of the Galway Cycle Campaign, confirmed that he had lodged a written complaint to the Irish Engineers Institute over redesign plans for the Seamus Quirke/Bishop O’Donnell Road.
He said that the proposed design for the new road with cycle lanes raised serious public safety issues for cyclists and also for people alighting off buses who had to cross the cycle lanes.
However, last month, Ciarán Hayes, the Director of Services at the City Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Department, wrote to Mr. Foran over his complaints.
