UK: Cyclists’ Hit-Run Agony

Daily Record: Cyclists’ Hit-Run Agony

A cyclist suffered spinal injuries and a number of broken bones after a hit-and-run crash with a car. The 28-year-old man was struck as he cycled home in the early hours of yesterday. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and his condition in hospital was last night described as “stable”. He was on Elphinstone Road in Tranent, East Lothian, when the incident happened at about 2.30am.

The driver of the car - thought to be a black Ford - sped off, before emergency services arrived to take the victim to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Police carried out a detailed examination of the scene of the crash and seized some items for analysis.

Officers last night appealed for the driver to come forward.

They also urged the public to report any dark coloured vehicle, probably a Ford, with significant damage to its front nearside bumper and headlight.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anybody who could have witnessed what happened.

“It is a quiet area just off the main A1 but there may have been people about.”
