Bikes and bodies were crushed and mangled when a cycling group slammed into an SUV on Tuesday afternoon on Kendale Lakes Circle.

Eleven people were injured including two men who were airlifted to local hospitals. Andres LaGuardia is still at Jackson Memorial Hospital and in pain. “I have fractures in my cervical vertebrae and my wrist,” LaGuardia said.The crash happened when an SUV pulled out of a driveway and into the bike path on Kendale Lakes Circle, which is a popular area for avid cyclists like LaGuardia.

He said he was riding alone for an hour on Tuesday before he joined the group.”From that point I don’t remember anything,” he said. “I came to here in the hospital. I don’t remember anything else — not the helicopters, the people or anything.”The driver of the SUV was charged with violating the cyclist’s right of way. Florida law requires motorists to stay 3 feet away from cyclists.While LaGuardia is recovering at JMH, another cyclist is at Baptist Hospital in Kendall. Friends said he underwent hip surgery Thursday night.
