UK: Wheelchair fears for attacked cyclist

Bromley Times: Wheelchair fears for attacked cyclist

A cyclist may be permanently disabled after being pushed off his bike by a motorist. Tony Barrett, 59, was pushed “with both hands” by a passenger who leaned out of a car window in Shire Lane, Farnborough, last Sunday lunchtime. He was taken to Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough with a broken back and may face life in a wheelchair.

Jemma Graham, the daughter of Mr Barrett’s fiancée, said: “I think it is disgusting. To be honest they don’t have a clue what impact they have on people’s lives.

“They are probably at home now sharing a joke while that poor man is lying in hospital.

“They have no idea of the distress they have caused, everyone’s lives have been turned upside down.

Ms Graham said that the incident was one of a spate of others which had happened to friends.

She added: “A friend was also pushed off his bike, but because he was able to get back on and cycle off he didn’t do anything about it.”

The matter has been reported to Bromley police.
